Coda Story is an award-winning non-profit newsroom covering global crises that affect their world by providing context and continuity through character-driven narratives on the most pressing issues.
Because they think of journalism as public service, Coda is a 501(c)3 U.S non-profit. They have offices in New York City and Tbilisi, Georgia (the two hometowns of Coda’s two co-founders) and teams spread around the world. They work with a wide network of partners and are supported by foundation grants and private donations. Coda is a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News and the Global Investigative Journalism Network. About 20% of their revenue is generated by animation and video production for outside clients.
They are format agnostic: they have done documentaries, video podcasts, long-reads, shortreads, animations and even an app that told a story in a graphic novel format. They report globally and in the United States, because they believe these days in order to do meaningful journalism on any big issue, it is important to show how local impacts the global and vice versa.
About 20 percent of their revenue is generated by animation and video production for outside clients and they hope to grow this.
