On April 16, 1964, the National Nuclear Energy Commission was created. Then, in 1965, Law No. 16,319 gave rise to the Chilean Nuclear Energy Commission, the legal continuation of the previous one.
The institution is directed and administered by a Board of Directors and an Executive Director, all appointed by HE the President of the Republic. The Executive Director is selected through the Senior Public Management System.
The activities carried out within the CCHEN impact various areas of national activity, the most relevant being health, industry, mining, agriculture and food.
Likewise, it regulates, authorizes and controls, at the national level, nuclear and radioactive sources classified as first category and their operators. Radiologically protects people and the environment, carrying out monitoring, surveillance, calibration, radioactive waste management and training in the radiological area.
It generates knowledge and developments in nuclear science and technology to contribute increasingly and sustainably to society.
