Community Recording Studio (CRS)
About

Set up in 1991, the Community Recording Studio teaches film and video skills as well as music, giving youngsters access to professional equipment and key industry contacts, including musicians like Estelle and Aloe Blacc.

CRS is based in St Ann's. The charity has been running for over 20 years, and was founded by members of the local community who have first-hand experiences of the needs of young people growing up in the area.

CRS provides positive and inspirational learning environments where young people primarily between the ages of 8 and 25 and members of the community can develop through experienced based education, with the support of professional, qualified and experience youth and community work team.

Youngsters who began their career at the studio have even gone on to perform at festivals like Glastonbury and their music has been aired on BBC Radio One. A few artists have also been signed to record labels.

The studio operates for five days a week, and the facilities are free to use.

Training is offered so that individuals can not only develop their own skills but also pass on the knowledge to others in the community.

CRS wants to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities, and enable them to participate in society as independent, mature, responsible adults.

CRS also wants to advance the education of the public, in particular young people, in music and the art and science of studio recording.
