CST was founded on December 20, 1989 and started its commercial activity on January 1, 1990. It is a global telecommunications operator, in the form of a joint stock limited liability company, shared by Africatel Holding BV which holds 51 % and, by the Santomense State which holds 49%.

Pioneer company in the Santomean market, first with an analogue fixed network and later, with fixed and mobile GSM digital networks, with operating licenses valid until March 1st, 2027.
