About

Compañía Azucarera Salvadoreña (CASSA) is an agro-industrial company with more than 45 years of experience in and marketing of products derived from sugarcane.

CASSA has two sugarcane processing mills:

    • In the western zone, Central Izalco has a daily grinding capacity of 12,500 tons.
    • In the Eastern zone of El Salvador, the Chaparrastique Mill has a grinding capacity of 6,000 tons of cane a day.

Social Resposibility

Social Responsibility is a business model that articulates CASSA’s agricultural, industrial, and commercial activity with the economic growth of the company, the welfare of its stakeholders, and the conservation of the environment in order to guarantee sustainable development for the company, and the neighboring areas where it conducts its business.

Based on our three lines of work – Development Drivers, Agriculture Partners, and Community Allies– we incorporate programs that seek a balance in the social, economical, and environmental fields.

CASSA hand in hand with your community

The Salvadoran Sugar Company (CASSA) is actively involved in the social development of those communities in which it conducts its production activities, through the "CASSA, Hand in Hand with Your Community" program, with the objective of turning these communities and cooperatives into sustainable actors of the country, and where families take a leading role in their own development.

The goal of this program is to introduce a comprehensive corporate social responsibility model, by improving infrastructure, health and environment, education, working environment and recreation, based on community organization and participation.

The program´s target population in the western part of the country are five reformed sector cooperatives, sugarcane producers, and providers as well as the inhabitants of Tonalá (Sonsonate), El Sunza, San Isidro (Izalco), Los Lagartos (San Julián), and San Raymundo (Ahuachapán). While in the eastern part of the country, sugarcane cutters and their families, belonging to 12 communities in Usulután, San Vicente, and San Miguel receive health care. At the moment, "CASSA, Hand in Hand with Your Community" program benefits more than 12,021 inhabitants of these communities and cooperatives.

CASSA's Supérate!

The ¡Supérate! CASSA Education Center started operations in 2008 in the Salvadorean department of Sonsonate and in 2009 in San Miguel. Total beneficiaries to date amount to 350 young people from the Salvadorean departments of Sonsonate and San Miguel.

This education project was an initiative of CASSA’s corporate social responsibility program aiming to provide new educational opportunities in areas where the company conducts operations. Through this program, young beneficiaries were given an opportunity to acquire professional and training skills, and close the social and economic gap that limits their alternatives in society and more importantly in the labor market.
