CLEARING THE FOREST
Construtora Etam is part of a group of companies which also includes Marmud Cameli e Cia Ltda. (M. Cameli) and Construtora Amazônidas. The first company of the group, M. Cameli was founded on September 23, 1980, in the city of Cruzeiro do Sul (AC), with Marmud Cameli and his sons Francisco, Orleir and Eládio as partners. It emerged as an industry and export trade of hardwood, furniture, window frames and construction material. Petrobras was one of the company's first customers. After carrying out geological studies and obtaining satellite data, the state-owned company considered the possibility of exploring for oil in the Amazon. It fell to M. Cameli to carry out the initial preparation of the prospecting area. For this, a professional from the construction company would go to the site by helicopter, it rappelled down into dense forest and created the necessary conditions for unloading the state-owned company's equipment.
M. Cameli also specializes in the so-called “ant work”, still used in the region. To reach certain points in the forest, the material travels along the river on a towed raft until it reaches a creek. From there, the cargo is distributed in small canoes and taken to its destination on dry land. This logistical resource is used to transport stone, sand, cement and even machines, which are disassembled and reassembled in places that are difficult to access, in general without electricity or infrastructure, in the middle of the forest. the material goes down the river on a towed raft until it reaches a creek. THE COMPANY GROWS
Construtora Etam officially started operating in 1996, occupying the top floor of a commercial building in the center of Manaus. At the time, it only had four employees and one car. Gradually, the company grew and won contracts. The most important one was for the construction of the BR-174 (Manaus - Boa Vista). The highway connects the States of Amazonas and Roraima, reaching 974 kilometers in length between Manaus and Pacaraima, on the border with Venezuela. The road is the only land exit from Manaus and the only connection between Roraima and the rest of the country. Successfully carrying out a succession of works, Etam was able to capitalize. Marmud's old debt was settled and in 2004 the group incorporated Construtora Amazônidas. The three companies now occupy the same address, in the Cidade Nova district, in Manaus. In addition to administrative areas, financial and engineering, the headquarters brings together a carpentry and framing center, a topography sector and laboratories for soil, concrete and asphalt quality control.
The corporate structure of M. Cameli has changed over time. With the voluntary departure of the brothers Francisco (Chiquinho) and Orleir, Eládio took over the construction company, at the time steeped in debt. In 1987, with the help of his parents, Marmud and Maria do Patrocínio, he founded another company, which would give rise to Construtora Etam, now made up of his sons Gledson and Eladio Junior.
