CODHES (La Consultoría para los Derechos Humanos y el Desplazamiento, Consultancy on Human Rights and Displacement) was created in 1992 to carry out research and advocacy contributing to the promotion and protection of human rights, in particular of the internally displaced population in Colombia. This is done through research, the production of information and analysis on internal displacement, and the formulation and promotion of alternative policies for the state to respond to the needs of the internally displaced.
MISSION
Work for effective implementation of comprehensive human rights and international humanitarian law, furthering awareness of population issues or those at risk of displacement and / or shelter, from the perspective of democratically constructed peace and social justice.
VISION
CODHES is projected as an organization that helps in finding a democratic solution to the armed conflict and humanitarian crisis, in line with social and human rights, social justice and sustainable development
WHAT WE DO
Codhes does not represent or claim to represent the population and organizations of displaced victims of armed conflict. Codhes’ work is based on the legitimacy of the issue and the obligation of civil society to build solutions to overcome the humanitarian and human rights crisis in Colombia.
The purpose of our work is to generate public debate on the axes of our institutional mandate, enabling positive change in the situation of communities at risk and in displacement, and generally promoting the realization of human rights as well as adherence to humanitarian and protection regulations designed to assist Colombian refugees in other countries.
- Research that investigates the reality of forced displacement, with the aim of producing and disseminating knowledge and methodologies to promote greater understanding and analysis of the phenomena associated with armed conflict and its effects on civilians.
- Information-sharing, oriented to the production of reliable, sustainable and timely contribution to the analysis and formulation of social and institutional responses to the humanitarian crisis. For the development of this line, we designed an institutional system of information on displacement, armed conflict and human rights - SISDHES, which is often consulted by national and international actors.
- As a legitimate actor in a democratic society, driving the adoption of comprehensive public policies that strengthen and enhance the capacities of social organizations.
- Dialogue, aimed at enhancing the communication capacity of communities affected by armed conflict and their organizations with the international community, the state and the public.
- Integration, understood as improving the capacity for coordination of various social organizations.
