Da Qanoon Ghushtonky (DQG) was established by Freshta Karimi and Najibullah Azizi in 2006. DQG was registered with the Afghan Ministry of Economy that same year. Freshta now serves as DQG's Director and Najibullah as one of the organization's Board Members.
DQG was created with the explicit purpose of advancing Afghan society through the promotion of a legal system based on human rights. This is realized through three key areas of work. First, DQG provides free legal aid to women, children, and men in 17 of Afghanistan's 34 provinces. Second, training--on Afghanistan's legal system and human and women's rights--is delivered to legal professionals and law students in Afghanistan's main urban centers. Thirdly, DQG works to raise the legal awareness of the Afghan public. This is achieved through preparing and distributing posters, leaflets and books; commissioning billboards and carrying out SMS campaigns to deliver key human rights messages; and finally, through the provision of Legal Mobile Clinics to raise awareness of human and women's rights in remote parts of the country.
