The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to the Republic of Yemen is part of the network of those 140 delegations. Under the authority of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, who is also Vice President of the European Commission, EU Delegations promote, inter alia, the political, trade and economic relations between partner countries and the European Union, informing the public of developments in the EU and explaining policies and participating in the implementation of the European Union's assistance programmes.
