About

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) brings together responsibilities for business, industrial strategy, science, innovation, energy and climate change.

They are responsible for:

  • developing and delivering a comprehensive industrial strategy and leading the government’s relationship with business
  • ensuring that the country has secure energy supplies that are reliable, affordable and clean
  • ensuring the UK remains at the leading edge of science, research and innovation
  • tackling climate change

Priorities:

From 2017 to 2018, their priorities will be to:

  • deliver an ambitious industrial strategy
  • maximise investment opportunities and bolster UK interests
  • promote competitive markets and responsible business practices
  • ensure the UK has a reliable, low cost and clean energy system
  • build a flexible, innovative and collaborative department

BEIS replaced the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in July 2016. They employ around 3,000 staff who work in their offices in London, Aberdeen and around the UK.
