Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) - United Kingdom
Defra is the UK government department responsible for safeguarding our natural environment, supporting our world-leading food and farming industry, and sustaining a thriving rural economy. Defra is a ministerial department, supported by 33 agencies and public bodies. It has around 2,000 staff working in Defra, including policy makers, scientists and research specialists. Most of its staff is based in London, but it has others in York, Bristol, and other offices throughout England.
Although Defra only works directly in England, it works closely with the devolved administrations in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and generally leads on negotiations in the EU and internationally they unleash the economic potential of food and farming, nature and the countryside, champion the environment and provide security against floods, animal and plant diseases and other hazardsSee more
