To grow food for growing population, there was a need to grow in the 19th Century. The Agricultural Department was established in the year 1883, as recommended by the Femin Commission of 1881. Work has been started for the purpose of providing necessary assistance to the farmers in the rural areas by including all the departments related to the agriculture sector. Agricultural and Land Records accounts were jointly organized till 1907. In the year 1915-16, the then Agriculture Director Mr. Kieting started the work of soil conservation since 1922 after the successful conclusion of the experiment to stop soil erosion.
