Every year tens of millions of people suffer from lower respiratory infections and they often go without proper treatment. In order to diagnose their infection, doctors have to collect a sample of phlegm from deep within the patient’s lungs. These samples are hard to obtain, especially from children, and they’re often contaminated by the time they exit the patient’s mouth
But what if they analyzed the droplets in their cough instead?
They are pioneering the management of lung health through their platform technology, the Cough Collector. The Cough Collector enables easy, rapid, and reliable diagnosis of disease through the non-invasive collection of cough aerosols.
When a patient coughs into the mouthpiece, the Deton Cough Collector captures an aerosol of infectious droplets. Contaminants are separated out, and the remaining droplets are siphoned through a specially designed nozzle that deposits the bacteria onto a tiny collection disc. This disc is easily ejected from the Cough Collector into a sealed container for analysis. The Deton Cough Collector will make diagnosing lower respiratory infections easy and reliable, paving the way for targeted treatments and better patient outcomes.
