About

The Development Innovation Lab - India (DIL-India), based at the UChicago Trust in India, brings researchers in different fields together with Indian government entities, firms, and non-profits to use the tools of economics developed by Nobel Laureate Professor Michael Kremer, to identify, test, refine and scale interventions with the potential to benefit millions of people in India.

About the Trust: The University of Chicago Trust (the Trust) is a charitable trust in India, established in 2008 by an alumnus of The University of Chicago. The Trust’s objectives are to provide opportunities for grants to support educational programs, research programs and activities for the betterment of India.

Ongoing Project Areas

  • Agriculture: DIL-India is identifying and assessing agricultural innovations that could provide social benefits, and proposing institutional mechanisms to promote and scale up these innovations. 
  • Education: DIL-India is conducting research on pathways to scale programs in government school systems that provide personalized adaptive learning through education technology.
  • Water: DIL-India is exploring research on the impact of chlorine treatment on child mortality.
