Development of Human Resources for Rural Areas (DHRRA Malaysia)
Development of Human Resources for Rural Areas(DHRRA), Malaysia is a voluntary non-profit and non-political organization registered in 2006 under the societies Act of Malaysia 1966. It evolved from what was formerly known as MasDHRRA (1974-1998) and later, DHRRA Network Malaysia (1999-2005) that worked towards organizing a strong rural and self-reliant community through poverty alleviation and people’s empowerment initiatives.
DHRRA Malaysia is affiliated to regional organization known as AsiaDHRRA. AsiaDHRRA is a regional partnership of eleven (11) social development networks and organizations in ten (10) Asian nations that envisions Asian rural communities that are just, free, prosperous, living in peace and working in solidarity towards self-reliance. The regional network is now composed of DHRRAs from Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, South Korea, Taiwan-ROC, and Japan.
Over the years, apart from addressing social needs and self-reliance of rural communities DHRRA Malaysia has also included to address needs of vulnerable persons with rural background. We have been gradually learning the art of uplifting vulnerable communities; from working with individuals, families to working with groups of people; from addressing welfare issues, homelessness to skills training, psychological counseling and enhancing education. We have long understood that the fundamental method to ensure effective community development is the direct service approach – addressing the community issues at grassroots level. Thereby, our activities to empower the community are shaped by problem solving, skills training and dissemination of information.
In line with our quest to build empowered and resilient community, our objectives will be in the following areas:
Strengthen social protection and empower members of communities in target to become self-reliant
Establish platforms of capacity development for individuals, organizations and societies obtain, strengthen and maintain the capabilities to set and achieve development objectives
Undertake and support research related to DHRRA’s main areas of work
Be a sustainable organization to fit for our purpose
DHRRA Malaysia aims to ensure sustained improvement of the quality of life of the vulnerable population through various combinations of efforts geared to the uplift the communities we work with. In short, we provide social protection of varied stages for community members who are in need. We believe a nation’s progress depends profoundly on the knowledge, skills and competencies of its people. Having our sleeves rolled up, our energy for continuing our dedication is strong as ever.
