The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works is an investor institution with a special budget, subject to the Central Government Budget, responsible for the planning, management, development and operation of all water resources in our country.
With the Presidential Decree on the Organization of Ministries, Relevant, Related Institutions and Organizations and Other Institutions and Organizations (Decree Number: 4) published in the Official Gazette dated 15 July 2018 and numbered 30479, a public legal entity affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, headquartered in Ankara. General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works with a special budget was established in Istanbul.
The General Directorate of DSI was established on 18 December 1953 with the Law No. 6200 and was organized in 1954.
Given to itself as a public institution; In order to effectively fulfill its objectives of flood protection, dissemination of irrigated agriculture, production of hydroelectric energy and drinking water supply to big cities, it continues its priority activities on dam works, which is the common point of these four purposes, in order to effectively fulfill the purposes of supplying drinking water to settlements with municipal organization. For this reason, the General Directorate of DSI is known as an institution that builds dams in our country. At the same time, it is the authority institution in the allocation of water resources in our country for various uses.
The activities of the General Directorate of DSI; It executes according to Laws 6200, 167 and 1053. These laws are summarized below:
With the Law on Organization and Duties No. 6200 dated 28/02/1954;
With the Law No. 1053 dated 03/07/1968 on the Supply of Drinking Water to Ankara, Istanbul and Cities with a Population Over 100 000;
While the duties were given to DSI, the population criterion was abolished as a result of the amendment of the Law No. and the name of the Law No. 1053 was changed to " Law on the Supply of Drinking, Utilizing and Industrial Water to the Settlement Areas with Municipal Organization ".
