The Diakonische Werk Bremen e. V. is in the federal state of Bremen recognized top association of the free welfare. It organizes and represents the interests of its more than 40 independent members working in all fields of social work. A total of about 3,600 full-time employees and 1,300 volunteers are involved in the member institutions of the Diakonie Bremen .
The Diakonische Werk Bremen e.V. is also called Diakonie Bremen. It belongs like 14 other regional associations to the Diakonie Germany. The Diakonie Bremen organizes and represents the Interests of its independent members.
The Diakonie Bremen is a recognized in the state of Bremen Association of the Free Welfare. The Diakonia Bremen is a member of working groups, such as the Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft the Free Welfare Bremen e.V.
Ecumenical and worldwide issues are pursued by Diakonie Bremen also through bread for the world, the Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe and hope for Eastern Europe. The partnership with the the municipality of Schäßburg has existed for more than 40 years.
The Diakonie Bremen promotes this at different levels voluntary commitment. These include the Voluntary Social
Year (FSJ), the Federal Volunteer Service (BFD) and the Volunteer Social Engagement (FSE) - also known as "volunteering".

The Diakonie sees itself as a lawyer of the weak and publicly names the causes of social distress in relation to politics and society.
