Since the beginning, DIAN MANDIRI affiliated with Opportunity International Network based in the USA. Starting 2015 Dian Mandiri decided not dependent to any Donors. DIMAN establish and member of JALA; a National Network of Accountability Institutions replicated of ECFA (www.ecfa.org) Seven standards, with 51 members.
DIAN MANDIRI FOUNDATION (later mentioned as DIMAN) was established in response to the national crisis since 1997 which impacted the Indonesian social and economic condition. DIMAN provide Micro Enterprise Development (MED) to clients through group and individual loans. The target clients are poor community who are economically active, including women in urban and sub-urban areas such as widows, and small business runner. The group lending program is called Trust Bank. Trust Bank itself is an approach to groups of community which has a mutual guarantee system for its effectiveness. The group consists of 15 to 30 poor entrepreneurs, mostly women, come together to receive business loans, training and assistance.
DIMAN’s primary target groups are:
- Low income urban and rural women including widows and those with little social support
- Unemployed and poorly educated urban people, including street vendors.
DIMAN provides revolving funds in the form of loans, training and support to help poor people establish or expand their own small enterprise. By developing the skills of poor people, talents are turned into businesses that feed and support families. Bringing the poor together and providing training and loans can raise the standard of living for entire communities, not just for a day, but also for years to come.
DIMAN made its first loan in May 1999 and by the end of 2016 DIMAN lend US$17.351.273 to 60,811 clients, while managing an outstanding portfolio of US$ 4,333,850.
At the moment DIMAN outreach focus on the region around Great Jakarta Region, Sumatera, Java Island and Borneo (Kalimantan) in Western part of Indonesia. Besides Micro Enterprise Development (MED) program through lending program, DIMAN also provide transformation and community development programs. The community will benefit directly from weekly meetings through training on basic business management and health education. One of the effects of DIMAN program is that now the people are free from moneylenders, have the ability to develop their business properly and able to manage the money through Financial Literacy Seminar. Improvements in the local economy and standard of living will also take place.
