First forming part of the Apostolic Vicariate of Léopoldville on April 3, 1919 by division of the Apostolic Vicariate of the Independent State of Congo and then becoming Apostolic Vicariate on February 26, 1934, the Diocese of Boma was erected on November 10, 1959.
