Dispositif National de Prevention et de Gestion des Crises Alimentaires (DNPGCA)
About

Created by the Prime Minister and placed under his authority, the National Mechanism for the Prevention and Management of Food Crises (DNPGCA) is the body responsible for the operational coordination of all activities for the prevention and management of food, nutritional and pastoral care in Niger. It is part of the Economic and Social Development Policy (PDES), the national food security and agricultural development strategy (Initiative 3 N) and the National Social Protection Policy (PNPS). It thus represents a strategic instrument which must be able to rapidly prevent disasters and manage food, pastoral and nutritional crises of any magnitude.

On the organizational level, the DNPGCA has seen improvements in recent years through several reorganizations, the last of which was in October 2017. It is headed by a Permanent Secretary, it is made up of the Coordination Unit of the Early Warning System ( CC / SAP), the Food Crisis Unit (CCA), the Social Safety Net Unit (CFS) and a Technical Management Unit: the Disaster Management and Reduction and Urban Development Project (PGRC-DU). The Permanent Secretary is supported by several Directorates (Administration and Finance, Audit and Internal Control, Communication and Documentation, Monitoring-Evaluation).

The Mechanism is based on other technical structures (interdisciplinary technical groups) and State-Donor consultation frameworks.

The main mission of the DNPGCA is the prevention, mitigation, management and early recovery of the impact of crises affecting the populations of Niger.

The DNPGCA has renovated its website in order to offer users more information opportunities on the prevention and management of food, nutritional and pastoral crises and, in general, on food security in Niger.
