About

DOK-ING is a 100% privately owned Croatian company, established in the late 1991 and registered for the production of robotized and special purposes systems and equipment. The headquarters, production facilities and service are located at 15.000 square meters area in Zagreb, Croatia. The secondary production facilities are in Slunj, some 50 km south of Zagreb. Along with the branch office in USA, there is a company in South Africa, DOK-ING Africa, which supports the program for south African mines. Today DOK-ING has 220 employees, almost 170 being in Zagreb, another 30 in Slunj and up to 20 in South Africa.

During first period DOK-ING was actively engaged in demining activities and has gathered vast experience in different types of landmine clearance, on all types of terrain in the Republic of Croatia, as well as in the surrounding countries. This experience was the basis for designing and manufacturing the first remotely controlled demining systems, constructed exclusively for humanitarian demining. As those were upgraded, improved and enlarged, the company has been doing R&D projects with various international and domestic organizations, including Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport and State Maritime Institute (Brodarski institut), Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb, and Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD). The demining systems were at the same time sold to more than 20 countries worldwide, a number of government agencies and humanitarian organizations, as well as to commercial companies. Altogether, more than 250 light and medium size demining systems were produced so far.

Following the company's motto „Don't send a man to do a machine's job“, the mining program has been started with an extra low profile equipment. After first products were tested, a new development phase has been going on and should deliver a completely new set of ultra low equipment  very soon.

Trying to protect and secure people working in an extremely dangerous domain of firefighting, DOK-ING designed a multifunctional robotic system which would help them do the job and be safe at the same time. Following the instinct, the new development is reaching issues of hybrid drive and nuclear sector application.

And then, last but not least important, DOK-ING designed and manufactured the first Croatian urban electric car with excellent automotive performances.

Today DOK-ING, in a few words, by integrating its own innovations and new technologies, develops and manufactures special purpose systems to protect human lives in most dangerous environments, primarily in demining, mining and fire-fighting.

And moreover, investing in business excellence everyone at DOK-ING is trying to create good basis for enlargement of the innovative product range, ensuring the recognition of the company on the world market.

Solutions

Humanitarian Demining

DOK-ING is a global leader in mechanical humanitarian demining.  Both of our systems with a range of different tool attachments are purposely built for mine clearance, they have optimal performance in the most dangerous conditions.

DOK-ING's demining systems are also optimized to be cost-effective for governments, agencies, NGOs and commercial companies. Mechanical demining provides significant savings over manual demining. Not only can more land be cleared, but human lives are saved as the process of manual demining is extremely dangerous. The most important feature of our demining systems is that they are remotely controlled tracked vehicles that can be operated from a safe distance.

Counter improvised explosive device (IED)

The DOK-ING light demining system is battle proven to effectively defeat IED’s in a war zone.  The remote control capability moves the operator away from the danger zone and allows the system to significantly reduce the threat to humans. DOK-ING systems have been operating in war zones for many years with exceptional results. Even when IED’s are encountered, the survivability of the systems is excellent.  In most cases, the impact only requires minor repairs to the system.

Both of DOK-ING demining systems working with a range of different tool attachments have proven to be excellent tools in defeating IED’s.

By clearing the way in front of a convoy or similar situations, our systems save lives and helping to destroy IED’s before they can destroy their target.

Fire-fighting

DOK-ING has developed the unique multifunctional robotic firefighting systems to extinguish fires in life threatening conditions and inaccessible areas in order to share core business philosophy - to protect and preserve human life and property.

The primary use of the DOK-ING solution – the multifunctional robotic firefighting system, is in industries where there is great danger of fire and explosions. The most important advantage of our system is the distance between the operator and the vehicle – since it can go up to 1500 meters in the line of sight, the safety features of the system are obvious and undeniable. At the same time, the video system allows enables the operator to have full control of the vehicle. Further R&D envisages the robotic system that could be operated even without radio communication, with enhanced basic features of strength and capacity.

Underground Mining

The solutions DOK-ING provided in designing and manufacturing the first extra low profile equipment proved to be successful in the platinum mining application. The references acquired so far put DOK-ING very high on the success scale because of the following features of the company:

  • Extremely client oriented company
  • Though thought to be small, it allow the company to be enormously flexible
  • Fast in adopting R&D ideas, and converting them into models

Due to those feature, DOK-ING entered a new project of designing and manufacturing ultra low profile equipment with a completely new power source, put him again on top of innovative producers in the mining industry.

Automotive

DOK-ING has decided to start with the electric car development project in 2009. Today, the project has evolved from the concept to the prototype stage, meaning that we are about to produce the first fully functional prototype. It is a fully electric car with advanced in-house developed carbon car body, aluminum chassis, motor controllers, Battery Management System, and driver interface (communication between the driver and the car).

Along with the R&D on the urban electric car, DOK-ING has examined the opportunities of conversion of conventional internal combustion engines to electric powered cars. Until today, a number of different models have been converted as the prototypes (Fiat Punto and Stilo, Hyundai H1, Dacia Duster, Skoda Octavia...). One conversion includes removal of internal combustion engine, its fueling system and a complete exhaust system from the car. Consequently, we install the electric motor, battery system, motor controller, Battery Management System, battery recharge system, new cooling system for motor and controller, new cabin heating system, and communication between car and newly installed systems. We aim to offer this service to the open market.

MyHMI

MyHMI is a Java based object oriented software framework for industrial graphical user interfaces development. It enables creation of visually adjustable interfaces for  embedded systems, independently of underlying OS or hardware platform, communication or data processing mechanisms. An expressive and comprehensive 3D visualization MyHMI provides, is based on two layered graphical architecture:

  • low level graphical layer based on the OpenGL and OpenGL ES standards
  • higher interlayer based on JOGL which enables multiplatform compatibility

Whether MyHMI’s  modularity concerns communication and data transfer possibilities, in- or output devices and components, data processing engine, or whether it concerns graphics, MyHMI provides the efficient, modular, pug-in structured architecture.
