DONG Energy was established in 2006 by the merger of six Danish energy companies: DONG, Elsam, Energi E2, Nesa, Københavns Energi and Frederiksberg Forsyning.
They divide their operations into four businesses: Wind Power, Bioenergy & Thermal Power, Distribution & Customer Solutions, and Oil & Gas. The Bioenergy & Thermal Power and Distribution & Customer Solutions businesses jointly constitute their Danish utility business.
The way they produce energy is changing rapidly. Since DONG Energy was formed in 2006, they have changed from one of the most coal-intensive utilities in Europe to a global leader in renewable energy. They are the world leader in deploying offshore wind, helping to reduce carbon emissions and harvest Europe's own energy resources. At the same time, they are taking the lead in converting existing coal- and gas-fired power stations to sustainable biomass, providing a heat and power supply which is both green and flexible.
