The Eight Capital Group is an investment firm that was in founded in 2005 by its Senior Principals – Ravi Chachra and Vikram Chachra. The Firm’s primary focus is investing in distressed debt and other special situation investments in India. The Investment Team has deep domain expertise in turning around stressed companies through balance sheet restructuring, implementing strong corporate governance policies and providing turnaround capital to put them on a growth path again.

Eight Capital has offices in Connecticut and Mumbai and draws on the skills and experience of approximately 20 employees and maintains a well-developed infrastructure with dedicated Accounting, Operations, Legal, Risk Management, Compliance and Information Technology Departments.

Mr. Chachra is a pioneer and an early entrant in India’s distressed debt market and has a successfully invested in public and private debt and equity linked securities of companies across sectors for more than thirteen years. He has also been an advisor to the authors of India’s new Insolvency & Bankruptcy code and to the members of the Bankruptcy Law Reform Committee.

Prior to Co-founding Eight Capital in 2005, Ravi developed his skills over a decade as an investment analyst and portfolio manager in New York and London at J.P. Morgan, Deutsche Bank, TCG and J. Goldman & Company. Ravi has an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Eight Capital’s first fund was anchored by J.P. Morgan in New York.

Eight Capital has the unique ability to spot investment themes early on and has the patience to conduct thorough analysis and prepare a game plan to profit from the opportunities as they unfold. The Firm has experience in executing innovative structures such as synthetic pre-packaged bankruptcies, restructuring of foreign currency convertible bonds and executing the first infrastructure construction claims management transaction in the country.

Eight Capital uses Debtor-in-Possession(DIP) for control strategy when investing by providing high coupon super priority loans coupled with Equity infusion to turnaround financially distressed but viable companies. The investment focus is on industrial and cyclical sectors that will benefit the most from consolidation in a growing economy. The fund’s investment and research team has deep domain knowledge in investing in India with more than 75 years of cumulative investment experience. The fund is registered with SEBI in India and the Fund Manager is incorporated in Mauritius and regulated by FSC, Mauritius as an FPI Category 2.
