El Faro is a journalistic project that was born in May 1998 in San Salvador, and whose main expression is elfaro.net, the first native Internet newspaper in Latin America. El Faro makes a firm commitment to investigative and in-depth journalism and is agnostic in terms of its platform: it makes journalism in various genres and formats both online and offline and traditional media such as radio, books, documentary films and face-to-face events. Since its birth, El Faro has had a Central American vocation and has become a regional benchmark for independent, transparent and reliable journalism that covers corruption, organized crime, migration, culture, inequality, impunity and Human Rights,

El Faro is a brand of the company Trípode SA de CV, based in El Salvador, founded in 1998 by the journalist Carlos Dada and the businessman Jorge Simán, who were the only shareholders for 16 years until in 2014 José Luis joined the shareholder Sanz As a concretion of the collective nature of the project, in 2015 journalists Sergio Arauz, Daniel Valencia, Óscar Martínez, Carlos Martínez, Ricardo Vaquerano and Elmer Menjívar joined as partners.
