THE WAY THEY THINK
EllisDon’s corporate culture and approach to business is a reflection of its core values and principles: freedom, trust, complete openness, mutual accountability, entrepreneurial enthusiasm, integrity and mutual respect.
These values provide their employees with the courage to express and apply their innovations and expertise, allow their clients to work with them in an open, transparent way, and push them to expand beyond the boundary of what it means to be a construction company.
WHO THEY ARE
EllisDon was established in 1951 in London, Ontario Canada by brothers Don and David Ellis Smith. At that time, their first project was a small home renovation followed by the construction of Northdale Elementary School. David left the company soon after its inception, and Don’s wife, Joan (the matriarch of EllisDon) joined the company as the bookkeeper / accountant.
During their early days, the company prospered because of their employees’ good spirit, hard work and positive attitudes. At that time, Don and Joan developed and established a culture that was based on the following principles:
- Be efficient, work hard, have a positive attitude and provide excellent client service.
- Be innovative and entrepreneurial so as to continually be at the forefront of the construction industry.
- Be ready to quickly adapt your outlook and approach as the construction industry is always changing.
- Attract the best and brightest people, give them freedom, respect and support. But most importantly, give them rapid advancement in their careers – as it is people that will help grow our company and take us in new directions.
They still follow these principles today. And since their humble beginnings we have grown to become a world-leading construction and building services company that builds everything, everywhere, while providing any service their clients may need. In the process of getting to where they are today, their people have developed many “industry firsts” for the Canadian and global construction market.
