Emang Basadi (EB) is a non-governmental, non-profit making, women’s human rights organisation formally established in 1986 in Botswana. It is a membership organisation committed to the principles of equality, justice and peace. The current membership is approximately 2 000, comprised of men and women. The Organisation’s main goal is to develop action oriented strategies and mobilise women to take steps that help change their social, political, economic and legal positions in Botswana. In pursuance of this vision and ideal, the association raises stakeholder awareness of and that of the general public through lobby, advocacy and capacity building, legal aid and counselling services for the empowerment of women. This Emang Basadi does the above through its five critical priority programmes, namely: Political Education Programme (PEP), Legal Aid and Counselling Centre (LACC), Women Economic Empowerment (WEE), Emang Basetsana (Girl-child empowerment Programme). Nationally, EB is a member of the following; Women’s Non-Governmental Organisation; a network of women’s movement, Botswana Council for Non-Governmental Organisation; a network of non- governmental organisations. Furthermore, it networks with other development organisations and pressure groups committed to the up-lifting the status of women and mainstreaming gender in development. Internationally, the association networks with Fokus and Follo (Norwegian Organisations), AWID and CIVICUS.
Emang Basadi will raise awareness through lobby, advocacy and capacity building and provide legal aid and counselling services for the empowerment of women.
Emang Basadi work is driven by the desire to achieve a society where equality, justice and peace are the core pf all interactions. This is the society where women’s human rights will be the norm rather than an exception.
