The Empresa Nacional de Electricidad SA - ENDE originated by Supreme Decree No. 0599 of February 9, 1962, through which the Bolivian Development Corporation was entrusted with its creation. ENDE was created as a public service institution, with an indefinite duration, to fulfill the specific role of production, transmission and distribution of electric energy, planning, construction and operation of electric companies owned and developed by any activity included in the electrical industry in areas where it does not exist or the service is inadequate.
ENDE was initially organized as a corporation with exclusive participation of the State, with legal status recognized by Supreme Resolution No. 127462 of February 4, 1965, which was ratified by Supreme Decree No. 7591 of April 20, 1966. ENDE began its supply operations in 1967, when commissioning the Corani Hydroelectric Power Plant, with 27,000 KW and the Corani - Cochabamba - Catavi transmission line.
