Brazilian holding company Equatorial Energía S.A., through its subsidiaries, is engaged in the distribution, generation and trading of electricity in Brazil. The group operates in Rio de Janeiro state through its indirect stake in Light S.A. (13%), serving around 3.8mn users. It also manages, through the same conglomerate, seven hydro power plants with a total installed capacity of 855MW. Equatorial Energia also controls Cemar, an electricity distribution concessionaire in Maranhão state that serves some 6.2mn residents. In addition, the company operates, through subsidiary Generadora de Energia do Norte, the Tocantinopolis and Nova Onlinda thermo plants in Maranhão state.
