Equilibres & Populations was created in 1993 by doctors and journalists in the context of the Cairo International COnference on Population and Development.
Since then, the association has been working to improve the living conditions and status of women, an essential factor for fair and sustainable development.
In sub-Saharan francophone Africa, Equilibres & Populations has progressively directed some of its action to the benefit of girls, particularly those that are least taken into account by existing policies or programs.
Starting from specific expertise on sexual and reproductive health and rights, the association has gradually developed a project that articulates different fields of intervention (health, education, economy) and that systematically integrates a gender approach.
Mission
Equilibres & Populations acts on the national and international scene for the rights and health of women and girls in West Africa.
In the vision carried by Equilibres & Populations, there can be no sustainable development without the feminine half of humanity being associated with it.
Improving women's living conditions and status, including their health and sexual and reproductive rights, is both a factor and a marker of development.
Values
RESPECT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
Civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights must be universally recognized and implemented for all, everywhere, through processes of political and social participation and ownership.
B NEI-BEING, FREEDOM AND RESPON bility
The well-being of populations is measured not only by economic indicators, but also by the ability of individuals to make informed and autonomous choices while assuming their responsibilities in the society to which they belong.
SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUITY
Human development must give all and all the same opportunities to achieve socially, politically and economically. Development must be concerned with equity and solidarity, especially between the sexes and between generations.
