The first electric light generator in Ethiopia is said to have been donated to Menelik by the German government in about 1890. Based on a pre-invasion study, three turbines with a total capacity of 3,835 KVA were installed on the Akaki River in 1921 at Abba Samuel 95 m south of Addis Ababa. Since 2008, it has been run entirely by Ethiopian officials. The Ethiopian Electric Power and Power Authority was established as a legal entity in accordance with Charter No. 213/1948 of January 22, 1948. The EPRDF, which took over the reins of political power, was renamed the Ethiopian Electric Corporation by Regulation No. 170/2002 of the Council of Ministers Regulation No. 18/2009. He has been in charge of the Public Enterprises Regulatory Authority, the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Mines and Energy. Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPC) was split into two and became known as Ethiopian Electric Power and Services.
