About

The European Cooperative for Rural Development (EUCORD), formally registered as “Coöperatieve EUCORD U.A.”, is a Brussels-based non-profit organization incorporated under Dutch Cooperative Law. EUCORD was created in 2003, and operates as an autonomous non-profit organization in affiliation with Winrock International.

EUCORD’s mission is to increase farmers’ capacity to sustainably grow quality crops matched to commercial needs of the industry and in doing so, increase food security, develop the private sector and improve the livelihoods of rural communities. Its vision: More prosperous and entrepreneurially oriented rural communities in developing countries.

Among the vast array of NGOs in Europe, EUCORD stands unique in its aim to actively promote partnerships between civil society organizations, corporations that are investing in developing countries, and development agencies. EUCORD fosters and facilitates partnerships between the NGO (civil society), public (national and local governments) and private (multinational, national, local) sectors through projects that provide access to credit and low-cost high-quality inputs, create value chains, promote education and training, and organize farmers.

EUCORD is primarily active in three program areas:

(a) implementation of agricultural value chain development projects;

(b) building technical and business capacity of NGOs and small enterprises through training and partnerships; and

(c) improving the livelihoods of women and their families through technical, health (HIV/AIDS), management, and leadership training.

Benefiting from the long-term project implementation and management experience of its senior staff, EUCORD has built over the past decade a strong and reliable project implementation capacity. EUCORD currently has over 40 full time staff and program activities in Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda.
