Extractives Baraza
About

Extractives Baraza is a multisector advocacy-neutral public platform, hosted at the Strathmore Extractives Industry Centre based at Strathmore University, which aims to facilitate access to information and foster meaningful stakeholder engagement in the extractives industry in Kenya and the broader African region. They work to challenge perceptions, redefine stakeholder engagement practices in Africa’s extractives sector and promote evidence-based and impact-driven research. Together with SEIC, they provide training and capacity building to a range of stakeholders, particularly young African professionals, to enhance their ability to utilize and benefit from the extractives sector and to stimulate sustainable economic growth.

Their approach is structured around two streams of information and connect the key to the transformation of dialogue and perceptions in the extractives sector. Specifically, they work to:

Inform

Informing stakeholders and citizens about developments and activities in the extractives sector. The goal is to ease information access through real-time channels i.e. website, newsletter, and social media platforms.

Connect

Connecting actors in the sector from the highest policy national levels to grassroots efforts in counties through in-person workshops forums and online means. The aim is to incentivize information utility and cross-learning through dialogue forums that enhance meaningful and purposeful stakeholder engagement.

Transform

Transforming dialogue and perceptions around the extractives sector through generating new insights and approaches on meaningful stakeholder engagement, from methodologies to reporting approaches that drive both transparency and performance.

Vision

To provide credible information that is dynamic and relevant on a regular and timely basis so as to enhance citizen participation in the governance of Kenya’s extractives sector.

Mission

Their mission is to continuously keep industry stakeholders informed by providing high-quality and dynamic information products through research, content generation, training, and partnership building.
