The Federal Defender Program, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia was established in 1973 as a private, not-for-profit Community Defender Organization serving the Northern District of Georgia. It is authorized and funded pursuant to the Criminal Justice Act(“CJA”), 18 U.S.C. § 3006A, et seq. The office can represent an individual only after the Organization is appointed by the court. This appointment is based on the financial situation of the person charged which is determined by a judge reviewing your financial affidavit. The office represents defendants who cannot afford counsel before the United States District Court, Northern District of Georgia, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
The mission of the Federal Defender Program, Inc. is to provide the highest quality legal representation for its clients. Its attorneys vigorously defend individuals accused of a variety of federal offenses. The Organization is committed to ensuring that the right to counsel, which is guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment and CJA, is enforced on behalf of individuals who cannot afford counsel.
