The Federal Police
That's about 31,000 police officers and several thousand civilian employees who make Germany, Europe and sometimes the world safer. In the system of internal security in the Federal Republic of Germany, the Federal Police carry out extensive and varied police tasks, in particular in the areas of border patrol , railway police and aviation security . With approximately 41,000 employees, of whom more than 30,000 are police officers, the Federal Police is a nationwide police force of high value. It is represented at over one hundred locations and is present at all important transport infrastructure points in Germany. As a result, the Federal Police can respond flexibly to all major situations and fulfill their police duties throughout Germany. Thus, the Federal Police makes an important contribution to the preservation of internal security in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Within the existing security network, the Federal Police works closely with the police and other federal and state security agencies on the basis of security co-operations and, in addition, with many foreign border authorities.
The Federal Police carries out police tasks worldwide on behalf of the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU) and other international organizations. It also supports the Foreign Office in protecting German diplomatic and consular missions. More than 500 civil servants are deployed as consultants and experts in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and worldwide crisis areas .

Federal Police Act
The duties and powers of the Federal Police are essentially regulated by the Federal Police Law (BPolG) . Other tasks are also found in numerous other legal provisions, such as the Residence Act, the Asylum Procedure Act and the Aviation Security Act.
The activity of the Federal Police is also determined by supranational regulations. Thus, international cooperation for internal security in Europe is also becoming increasingly important for the Federal Police. The Federal Police already have a wealth of experience in this area.
This is proven by their participation in important international cooperation projects, for example:
- United Nations international police missions on crisis management,
- Civilian Crisis Management of the European Union (EU),
- the European border agency FRONTEX,
- "RAILPOL" (Network of European Railway Police Authorities)
- and the Baltic Sea Region Border Control Cooperation (BSRBCC) .
