Financial Sector Deepening Kenya (FSD Kenya)

FSD Kenya was created in 2005 as an independent trust, supervised by KPMG, FSD Kenya is celebrating its tenth year of bringing financial services to an ever-increasing number of people and small businesses across Kenya. FSD uses the “making markets work for the poor” (M4P) development approach. M4P provided the original impetus for the establishment of FSD Kenya and has guided our activities over the last ten years. The M4P approach seeks to change market systems so they work more effectively for the poor. FSD Kenya support the development of financial inclusion in Kenya. Their work ranges from direct investment in market innovations to research and policy analysis. Everything they do seeks to harness financial solutions to meet the needs of lower income households and smaller scale businesses – to help them to manage scarce resources and invest in the future. In short, their aim is to make financial markets work better for the poor. Goals: FSD’s long-term goal since its inception has been to generate sustainable improvements in the livelihoods of lower-income households through reduced vulnerability to shocks, increased incomes and employment.  Objectives While access to financial services is critical, how these services are used is equally important. Accordingly, FSD’s immediate objectives have changed over time to recognize the need for a greater focus on the demand for inclusive financial services. FSD’s current objective is therefore to see the increased use of a broad range of quality financial services provided by a stable and competitive financial system in a way that benefits the livelihoods of under-served lower income groups. FSD’s management team is creating a new strategy that takes into account the fast moving pace of change in the financial arena.  Focus Areas: From digital finance to social protection, FSD Kenya works to support financial inclusion with a focus on nine inter-related topic areas.  - Financial Landscape - Consumer Insights - Saving Groups - Social Protection - Digital Finance - Payments - SME Finance - Risk and Insurance - Credit Market Development
