About

Financial Sector Deepening Uganda (FSDU) is an independent not-for-profit company committed to promoting greater access to financial services in Uganda. FSD Uganda seeks to develop a more inclusive financial sector with a focus on low-income individuals (particularly women) and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). They support innovation, conduct research, help promote and improve policy, laws and regulation that shape the financial sector in Uganda.

FSD Uganda works with both public and private sector players to develop sustainable improvements in the livelihoods of low-income individuals through reduced vulnerability to shocks, increased incomes and employment creation.

FSD Uganda is funded by Department for International Development (DFID) UKaid  and is part of a network of nine financial inclusion organizations working  in the sub-Saharan region of Africa.

FSD Uganda Governance

FSD Uganda was incorporated in March 2015 and is governed by the Board of Directors. The investments are reviewed and approved by the Programme Investment Committee (PIC) which meets quarterly.

The management FSD Uganda is under the direction of the Executive Director. The Executive Director is supported by the Pillar Heads / Specialists who are responsible for the realization of the planned goals and objectives.

Their Mission is to promote initiatives that improve performance of finance markets for greater inclusiveness of the active poor

Their Approach

FSD Uganda seeks to impact the market through a tailored market systems approach: Micro level the programme improves the capacity of financial institutions, enabling them to provide innovative services for the poor; meso level, strengthening the financial sector by providing appropriate support services (for example, technology platforms, payment systems and connectivity and credit reference bureaux) and Macro enabling the environment that encompasses legislation, regulation and supervision.
