An independent family foundation recognized as being in the public interest, Fondation Mérieux's mission is to fight on the ground against infectious diseases affecting developing countries by strengthening their capacities, particularly in clinical biology.
With its network of laboratories, it privileges the diagnosis, because it is an essential element of the care of the patients and an indispensable tool of the surveillance and the control of the diseases. In a global health approach, the Foundation comes, also on the ground, to help the most vulnerable, especially the mother and the child.
Since its creation in 1967, the Fondation Mérieux, today present in about twenty countries, favors a partnership approach which allows to associate public and private actors, united around a common mission. The Foundation strives to help strengthen the skills of professionals on the ground to ensure the sustainability of its action. It thus acts as a catalyst for local and international initiatives to promote more equitable access to health for vulnerable populations.
Fondation Mérieux works in symbiosis with the Christophe and Rodolphe Mérieux Foundation, an independent family foundation housed by the Institut de France, with which it shares the same public health objectives.
