About

With annual revenue of R$ 2 billion and around 4,700 employees, Formitex Group runs several lines of business – papers, laminates, chemicals, infra-structure and logistics – and occupies an important position in all areas where it is operates.

This story started around 40 years ago with a company oriented to buy and sell chemical products, based in an office in Suzano, Metropolitan Area of Sao Paulo. The business was in its infancy, but with its founder’s determination, heading an excited team of employees, showed signs of a promising future.

Brazil was in a prosperity cycle, but shortly after would start living with long retraction periods. Along the up’s and down’s of the economy, the company invested in growth and, in almost four decades became one of the most diversified business conglomerates and one of the greatest success stories of the country.

Papers

MD Papeis is divided into four paper and card manufacturing plants, with production capacity of 210,000 metric tons a year. It is one of the most important high quality special paper manufacturers. Its main competitive differential is its diversity of products, special technologies, and high quality service.

Laminates

Formiline is the market leader and the largest high-pressure decorative laminate manufacturer in South America. The Company owns in South America (except in Colombia and Venezuela) the traditional brand Formica®, which became synonymous with decorative laminates.

Formiline supplies furniture industries – its main market – as well as construction, electronics, and appliance companies and it also has an important position in the wall covering segment.

Formiline’s products are a testimony of quality by their resistance, ease of application, and wide range of colors – currently, Formiline offers laminates in over 150 colors, in several thicknesses and finishes.

Always in tune with the decoration and construction world, Formiline’s products can be found in furniture, wall coverings, flooring and in many other areas, as well as in various environments – such as residences, offices, industries and hospitals.

About 30% of the production is exported to over 40 countries. The main markets are the United States, Spain and Australia.

The Company has factories in the cities of Suzano (SP) and Paulista (PE). A third industrial complex is installed in El Talar, Argentina, and does business under the brands Formica®, Décor® and Form Plac®. That company supplies the local market and exports to seven countries in South and Central America.

Chemicals

The Formitex Group’s Chemical Division consists of companies that manufacture and distribute chemical solutions for several sectors of the economy:

  • detergents, textile auxiliaries, cleaners, cleaning process auxiliaries and lubricants
  • paints, resins and compounds
  • pulp and paper, construction, mining and oil
  • pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food and beverages, agricultural and veterinarian products
  • inks, adhesives, packages, metallurgical, electronics, appliances, thinners
  • polyurethane, plastics, and rubber
  • petrochemical

The Chemical Division is based on values created together with its employees: commitment, responsibility, integrity, simplicity and perseverance. Its focus is consumers of chemical solutions for wealth creation through innovation, knowledge sharing and common growth, with ethics and respect for life.

Infra-structure and Logistics

Adonai S.A. bundles two of Formitex Group’s recognized competencies: logistics capacity and chemicals transportation and handling expertise.

The Company manages a bulk liquid storage terminal – for both flammable and nonflammable liquids – in a 27,500 m2 area in Barnabe Island, on the left bank of the Santos harbor.

With 76 tanks of 110,000 m3 of static capacity, the terminal is equipped to manage over 1.5 million cubic meters of liquid cargo a year and works 24 hours with a team highly trained on security and liquid cargo operations. Adonai was awarded the most important national and international certifications in its area.

Its privileged location, with easy access to Sao Paulo and to other large cities, is another important advantage of the terminal.

Sustainability

AGS – Associacao Gusmao dos Santos was founded in November 1993, when social responsibility was not even recognized in the corporate world’s dictionary. It is a non-profit entity, maintained by the Formitex Group’s companies with the support of its partners. A fulfillment of the dreams and ideals of the Group’s founders, AGS seeks to create opportunities, develop skills, defeat challenges and strengthen the bonds between children and adolescents with their families and with the community through a set of projects.
