About

Originally commissioned and established in 1966, the Frontier Works Organization FWO is a vital administrative branch of the Pakistan Army that includes both active duty officers and civilian scientists and engineers; and since its establishment it has been credited with the construction of numerous bridges, roads, tunnels, airfields and dams in Pakistan, on the orders of the civilian Government of Pakistan. Its primary objectives include projects related to Civil, construction, Combat, structural, and Military engineering and is currently commanded by Major-General Najeebullah Khan. The FWO is internationally and nationally famous for leading the design and construction of the Karakoram Highway as well as for building civil and military infrastructure for the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Armed Forces.

 

For the last 45 years FWO has left its imprints, bringing prosperity to utterly backward and forgotten areas from the sun burnt plateaus of Baluchistan to lush green dales of Swat and Chitral and from the deserts of Sindh to snow capped Siachin. Over these years FWO has worked in diversified fields to include development of communication infrastructure like construction of roads, railway lines and airfields; irrigation like construction of dams, canals and barrages; power projects like thermal and hydal; tunnelling and mining; telecommunication; construction of residential and industrial infrastructure and proved its unmatched qualitative and quantitative capabilities.

FWO possesses over 100 qualifed and experienced engineers , about 4300 middle and lower level technicians and operators, A work force of over 15,000 personnel, divided into construction units and construction teams.
