GeoHazards International
About

Their mission is to end preventable death and suffering from natural disasters.

They help the world’s most vulnerable communities prepare for earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, and climate hazards. They have been pursuing this vital mission since 1991 in more than 40 communities around the globe.

Their approach is to improve safety before a disaster. They raise awareness, build local capacites to reduce risks, safeguard schools and hospitals, and develop affordable solutions. They collaborate with leading engineers, scientists, government agencies, universities, and building trades.

Their vision is self-reliant communities around the world that can continue their economic, political and cultural development unimpeded by natural disasters.

“Communities” in their projects have included an association of nations (the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), a nation (Bhutan), a megacity (Delhi), a village (Chocos, Peru), a dispersed ethnic group (Tibetans in northern India), or a segment of society with unique needs (sight-impaired individuals, women or children).

GeoHazards International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Their main office is in Menlo Park, California. Their field offices are in New Delhi, India and Thimphu, Bhutan; staff is also based in Cap Haitian, Haiti and Aizawl, India. They remain independent of political, business and research pressures.
