CIED was established at Georgetown University in 1981 to design and implement international development and public diplomacy programs. Their programs serve those from diverse economic, geographic, and social backgrounds, and provide people with the tools and knowledge to make sustainable and meaningful improvements in their communities and in their own lives.
For more than 30 years, Georgetown University’s Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) has been a leader in developing and implementing a diverse array of international programs. They tailor programs to the unique needs of their partners—government agencies, private enterprises, universities, and NGOs worldwide. Their customized academic exchange programs tap the spectacular academic resources of Georgetown University as well as their extensive network of public sector and corporate leaders. With a diverse team of professionals, CIED has the capacity, management expertise, and experience to deliver programs in Washington, D.C., and anywhere in the world.
Their track record of successfully administering and managing more than 200 government grant-funded programs makes us a trusted partner of the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Agency for International Development, and embassies around the globe.
All CIED programs have a focus on building intercultural understanding, fulfilling Georgetown University’s mission to prepare global citizens to lead, serve, and change the world. They design and implement short- and long-term programs and workshops on virtually any topic of interest to their program partners.
CIED’s flagship Gateway to Georgetown program brings together students and professionals from around the world with Georgetown faculty. Through their collaboration with departments, centers, and schools across the University, they ensure that program participants receive world class training and that our institutional partners and faculty benefit from CIED’s extensive experience in program design and logistics.
The Center for Intercultural Education and Development fulfills Georgetown University’s mission to prepare global citizens to lead, serve, and change the world. Working with public and private partners in education, business, and government, we design and implement international education programs that empower individuals, promote intercultural understanding, strengthen democratic values, and support sustainable development.
Their programs are guided by the Jesuit philosophy of educating the whole person, advancing social justice, and promoting understanding among people. They seek to enhance the lives of individuals around the world, providing them with the tools to enrich their communities. They take pride in programs that they run and they measure their impact by the success of the individuals with whom, and for whom, they work.
CIED’s breadth and depth of experience allow us to develop and manage academic programs and exchanges in almost any area of interest to our program partners. Their expertise comes from more than 30 years of institutional knowledge as a Center and from the diverse educational and professional backgrounds of our team. With in-house subject matter expertise in everything from education and youth development to international business and trade, they are well equipped to meet the needs of their partners and participants.
Today, CIED is an internationally recognized leader in delivering distinctive, impactful programming in four key areas: academic training and exchanges, English language programming, youth programming, and fostering intercultural understanding. Staff dedicated to each program take the time to understand their partners’ mission and goals. Their team’s cultural diversity and expansive global experience ensures that CIED programs are carefully tailored to meet the needs of participants across the globe.
