The Geotechnical Consulting Group LLP (GCG) was founded in 1983 by Lord Professor Robert Mair, Professor David Hight and the late Professor Peter Vaughan to provide geotechnical consulting services employing state of the art research and developments in their understanding of soils and rock. GCG has established a reputation for developing innovative geotechnical solutions to technically demanding engineering problems, and is widely recognised as one of the world's leading independent geotechnical consultants. Their capabilities draw on the latest developments in engineering theory, research and practice from around the world.

They are an independent company owned by its members, providing expert advice to a wide range of  clients including consultants, contractors, government departments and agencies, private and public companies, legal practices and research organisations.

Industry Leaders

GCG staff serve on professional and specialist committees and are closely involved in implementing new methods of design and analysis.

GCG has provided five past Rankine lecturers, one Glossop lecturer, several Chairpersons of the British Geotechnical Association and the Institution of Civil Engineers' Ground Board. Its founding director Robert Mair is the current President of the ICE. Members of GCG have published hundreds of technical papers and over 20 major state-of-the-art reviews.

GCG are members of the Association of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Specialists, AGS and are core members of  the Construction Industry Research and Information Association, CIRIA. Their members and associates  regularly participate in workshops, and are actively involved in developing industry best practice guidance for geotechnical issues.
