The German Sport University Cologne, founded in Cologne in 1947, combines qualified teaching, international research and top-class sport at the highest level. It is Germany's only university that is exclusively dedicated to the field of sport and exercise. While sports science exists alongside many other specialist areas at other universities, the situation in Cologne is unusual: At 19 institutes, four affiliated institutes and five transfer centers, the diverse and exciting field of sports science is examined in detail in all its facets.

The German Sport University Cologne occupies a special position in the competition between universities at German and international level due to its special subject area. Their research, teaching, training and consulting activities are geared towards sport as a common, overarching point of reference. In doing so, it endeavors to consistently take into account the fact that the structural change in sport, its differentiation and its growing health, socio-political and economic importance have systematically expanded the range of tasks and fields of application of sport science and require completely new solutions to problems.
