About

The Gesellschaft für Versicherungswissenschaft und -gestaltung e.V. (Association for Social Security Policy and Research; GVG) is unique in its representation of the system of social security in Germany. GVG is a non-profit association. Since its foundation in 1947, it has been the principal forum for discussion of the further development of social security in theory and practice. GVG’s core activities range from facilitating evidence based positions on important reform issues to anchoring them in the political process. Beyond its input at the national level, GVG’s expertise in all issues of social protection and employment is highly respected in the area of international cooperation.

Almost all relevant institutions in the field of social security are members of GVG: statutory social insurance institutions; private health, long-term care and life insurance companies; professional and occupational pension schemes; health care providers; trade unions and employers’ associations; as well as researchers and representatives of other relevant institutions.

GVG offers its members a forum for discussing challenges in social security and for exchanging information about current reform projects. GVG members benefit from interdisciplinary and cross-cutting debates. In direct contact with politicians, researchers and practitioners, GVG’s members play an active part in shaping Germany’s social security system.
