Gesplan constitutes an instrument for the application of the policies of the Canary Islands Government in terms of land management, environment and tourism renovation. Within the scope of its production areas of Territorial, Urban and Tourism Planning and Management and Environment and Infrastructure, it contributes to the Canary Islands Government's objectives of achieving a proper planning of the territory, in line with the sustainable development, balance and harmonization of the urban, urbanizable and rural areas that is one of the basic pillars of the development of the Canary Islands and for this purpose it has been developing and / or managing territorial and urban and environmental planning instruments for years, in order to guarantee its correct application in the different areas of the territory .

Likewise, as of the 2009 annuity, Gesplan has implemented its object of action contributing to the improvement and rehabilitation of the most important productive sector of the Canary Islands, through the promotion of the Plans for modernization, improvement and increase of the competitiveness of the tourist centers of the Canary Islands, as fundamental instruments for promoting the renewal of this sector in the islands.

From the conviction that the information must be available to everyone, but not only as a repository, but as an instrument that can be managed and used by all, administrations and citizens, Gesplan is committed to the tools provided by new technologies in the field territorial. In these times, it has been shown that the role of public administrations in territorial planning has become an obstacle that hinders the economic development of activities in the territory of the Canary Islands. Given this situation, the government opts for the redefinition of the Canary Islands Planning System and the competency system in the area of ​​land management of the Canary Islands public administrations (regional, island, local). It is necessary to introduce into the present debate a new leap of technological innovation in territorial planning. A new program “Innovation and development of good governance and multi-criteria evaluation for decision-making in territorial policy - 2016-2019” is proposed for this. The exploitation of the data and substantive determinations contained in the planning instruments is pursued, deepening the transparency of public information processes and documentary contents. This program promotes a new model of management of the territory open to the public, in which intelligent planning has a place without it implying a strong conditional on territorial actions and citizen aspirations. In addition, this program must respond to the commitment made to sustainable development and guarantee the principles of transparency, participation and collaboration. This good governance program pursues the achievement of the objectives of efficiency in the processing and decision-making of urban and territorial planning instruments, deepen transparency in public information processes and document contents, implement a true and operational inter-administrative collaboration in the different administrations that interact and competent in territorial planning, and finally as the main premise the approach to citizenship through understandable language and based on the use of all communication and participation channels that currently exist.

Gesplan must and can fulfill its role as a link between the administrations and between the different departments of the Government of the Canary Islands, in order to facilitate the application of sectoral legislation with an impact on the territory. To do this, the proposal for parcels from the different departments of the Canary Islands Government competent in matters with territorial impact is continued, so that Gesplan will carry out continuous assistance in everything that may be of interest, providing information and advice on the matters that They are specific to the rest of the administrations that require it.

As an instrument of the Government of the Canary Islands, Gesplan participates in the management of Canary Islands planning in charge and gives technical, legal and environmental assistance to the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Sustainability and Security, maintaining the drafting of the instruments of the Canary Islands Government and those that are considered strategic. In the field of tourism and in coordination with the Island Councils and Town Halls, the development of the Plans for modernization, improvement and increase of the tourism competitiveness of the Canary Islands is continued, provided that the drafting of the same by the Canary Islands Government is considered appropriate or request of the Cabildos and / or Town Halls.

In environmental matters, Gesplan continues to provide support in the execution of environmental policies, through the collaboration in the management of Protected Natural Areas, the drafting of Flora and Fauna Conservation Studies, of Recovery Plans for Endangered Species. Continue with the work of Monitoring and Control of Endangered Species, Collection, Recovery and Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Inventory and Rehabilitation of Degraded Areas, Education and Environmental Outreach: Training Courses, Guides, Itinerant Exhibitions, etc. Continue with the Project Management with European Financing (INTERREG, LIFE, ETC.) in Fields as Sustainability Indicators, Biodiversity Data Bank, etc.

Regarding Infrastructures, it is intended to continue with the orders of:

  • Forest Fires Infrastructures, Preventive Treatments and Organization of Fire Fighting Campaigns.
  • Tourism and Leisure Infrastructures Recreational Areas, Viewpoints, Royal Roads, Trails ...
  • Forest and Agricultural Infrastructure, Construction and Maintenance of Nurseries, Tracks, Agricultural Irrigation Networks.
  • Landscape Restoration Walls, Bank Reconstruction, Slope Stabilization, Landfill Cleaning, Quarry Rehabilitation ... Plantations and Restocking.
  • Forestry Treatments in Forest Masses Cleaning, Pruning, Claras, Resalveos, Elimination of Exotic Species.
  • Forest Planning Inventories, Technical Management Plans, Dasocratic Plans, Cartography, Thematic.
  • Educational Support Teachers School of Agrarian or Forestry Training Organization of Courses, Seminars ...

In order to continue with the external action, the line of work already started a few years ago by Gesplan, of collaboration and participation in projects of the company's own materials, is resumed in the countries of our most immediate geographical environment: Azores, Madeira, Cape Verde or the countries of northwestern Africa, actions carried out in coordination with the Directorate General for Economic Affairs with Africa of the Government of the Canary Islands, as well as the different bodies of the European Union that focus their work in these regions.
