APPROACH
Capacity Building
Global Civic Sharing is committed to strengthening the skills, knowledge and ability of individuals in developing countries. We believe that investing in people is the first step in improving the quality of life in communities.
Empowerment
Global Civic Sharing is committed to helping individuals and communities believe that they have the power to make a change in society. Through community partnerships and active involvement of local staff, we train communities to take part in the decision making of development programs.
Advocacy
While Global Civic Sharing is mostly committed to overseas community development work, we also believe that it is important to educate and strengthen the Korean civil society to be more actively involved in third world development issues. Through the partnership of other civil society organizations, we strive to advocate laws and policies regarding international development.
PROGRAMS
Vocational Training
Global Civic Sharing empowers local people by providing them with training opportunities to develop Korean language and computer skills in order to eradicate poverty and develop human resources in developing countries. We target the socially marginalized who have limited education and employment opportunities.
Education
Global Civic Sharing has various educational programs to enable various levels of civil society to better understand and discuss global issues such as poverty and to take action. We especially have a special focus on youth and university students equipping them with the experience and training needed to develop better leadership and accountability to global issues.
Advocacy
Global Civic Sharing advocates to governmental agencies, corporations, various leaders and citizens to promote better understanding of poverty issues and to encourage action. Global Civic Society promotes research on foreign ODA policies and strategies, participates in national and international seminars, conduct presentations on national and international foreign aid case studies, organizes and participates in various anti-poverty campaigns.
Fellowship Program
Global Civic Sharing sends volunteers to developing countries to gain experience working in the field of international development cooperation.
Since November 2004, approximately 50 volunteers have been sent to 7 different countries, Vietnam, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, East Timor, Thailand, Rwanda and Kenya. Each volunteer stays for 1~2 years conducting various income generation, community education, and civil society exchange projects.
Starting from 2008, Global Civic Sharing has developed its volunteer program into the GCS Fellowship program, which provides recent university graduates an opportunity to receive specialized training on international development before being dispatched to various development project sites, equipping them with the skills and the knowledge needed to become an expert in international development.
