Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) becomes Global Health Partnerships

We are excited to announce that, as of 6 November 2024, THET has a new name: Global Health Partnerships. We have adopted this clear, modern name to better reflect the focus of our work – which remains the same – working globally in partnerships to improve the quality and affordability of health care in lower- and middle-income countries.

It’s a change that’s been long in the making. The development of our 2022-2027 Strategic Plan sharpened our focus on evolving our language and identity in light of ongoing decolonisation debates – while our work has always promoted mutually beneficial partnerships led by locally determined priorities, we recognise that our name was increasingly out of step with the work we were doing on the ground. We were also hit hard by the reductions in UK aid in 2021, meaning we need to attract new funding sources going forward. A clear, modern name that says ‘what we do on the tin’ is key to this.

We are grateful that the need to change our name was accepted and welcomed by our founder, Professor Sir Eldryd Parry, before his death.

Global Health Partnerships Cymru

Relaunching ourselves as Global Health Partnerships also provides a springboard for expansion within the UK, and we are delighted to have merged with the Wales and Africa Health Links Network as of October 2024. Our new name will be adapted to encompass this exciting development, bringing into existence Global Health Partnerships Cymru.

Global Health Partnerships’ Chair of Trustees, Justin Ash, said: “Our renaming is a bold move which modernises the charity’s appearance, while maintaining its dedication to the vision of a world where everyone has access to quality healthcare. Launching Global Health Partnerships having just celebrated the charity’s 35th birthday will renew the energy and commitment to our mission for the next 35 years and beyond.”

We are very excited about the future direction of the new Global Health Partnerships, and we hope you will join us on our journey.
