The Government of Alberta Ministry of International and Intergovernmental Relations coordinates Alberta’s relationships with various levels of government in Canada and around the world. Working on behalf of Albertans, the department enhances Alberta’s national and international presence in areas such as export development, investment attraction and governmental relations.

INVESTMENT ATTRACTION & EXPORTING ACTIVITIES

 

The Ministry of International and Intergovernmental Relations facilitates export development and investment attraction from targeted international markets. Key activities include:

-Providing international market intelligence to export-ready Alberta companies

-Showcasing Alberta’s technologies, products and services

-Facilitating networking events and programs, and contact introductions in priority markets

-Promoting Alberta's investment opportunities to targeted companies in priority markets

-Assisting Alberta companies in accessing foreign markets

 

 

INVESTMENT ATTRACTION

Alberta has undertaken many initiatives to attract investment and diversify the province’s economy. Alberta’s government agencies, community leaders and industry stakeholders have made available resources to help companies locate the business and investment opportunities that match their needs.

 

 

EXPORTING

Alberta’s economic success requires strong linkages with international markets.  Focusing on key geographic markets, International and Intergovernmental Relations facilitates export and trade development in targeted industry sectors.

Staff work closely with Alberta companies to:

-Identify and provide market information and intelligence

-Introduce them to international key contacts and business networks

-Provide in-market support such as establishing an Alberta presence at key sector trade shows that include and feature Alberta companies and industry partners

As part of this work, the Ministry also provides Alberta companies with access to information on projects financed by international financial institutions and leads the Alberta Government's participation in the World Bank's Private Sector.

 

Electronic Business Intelligence Service (EBIS)

EBIS offers specific intelligence such as business leads and information on key markets and industry sectors to assist Alberta companies in export decision making for various sectors and markets.

 

International Financial Institutions

International Financial Institutions (IFIs), such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Asian Development Bank, are formal international lending agencies operating across country boundaries. They are the largest source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries stimulating economic growth and development.

IFIs can play an integral role in the development of international activities for Alberta's private sector. The Alberta government provides Alberta companies with information on IFI development projects to facilitate new export and investment opportunities.

Services include:

-providing Alberta companies with access to information on projects financed by IFIs

-providing market intelligence and key contacts for IFIs

-developing and delivering seminars to assist Alberta companies in expanding their export horizons

 

 

ALBERTA INTERNATIONAL HOUSE
