​Gwich'in Council International's Board of Directors is composed of two members from the Northwest Territories, two members from the Yukon and four members from Alaska. The Chairmanship rotates between the Gwich'in Tribal Council and Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation with each region nominating the Director who will assume the Chairmanship responsibilities. The Vice-Chair is filled with a member from Alaska.

GCI is a not-for-profit organization with an office in Whitehorse, Yukon.
