Founded in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on February 23, 1952 , an Association of / and for blind people, nonprofit, apolitical, enjoying the legal personality, and denominated: Société Haïtienne d’Aide aux Aveugles.
This Association has the acronym SHAA and is governed by its Constitutive Act, its Statutes, its Internal Regulations and all provisions of laws governing the matter. The SHAA, in keeping with its philanthropic vision, has as its motto: Serving the visually impaired.
Its mission is to work to prevent blindness and help improve the quality of life for the blind and visually impaired. In keeping with this mission, the SHAA offers a variety of services to the community: functional rehabilitation services, integrated education, eye health, and an inclusive specialized library. SHAA is very active in advocacy with a view to influencing the country's public policies .
